Music Initiation Program
Music Classes for K3 - Beginning Grade 1
Every afternoon, children race through the doors and kick off their shoes to quickly join the circle of eager classmates. It’s time to roll the big ball, sing the name-greeting song sing greetings to Fuzzy Bunny and climb the musical scale wit Ebeneezer Sneezer. When the class ends and the teachers says goodbye , children grab their art projects and squirm into their shoes - they can’t wait to get home and teach everyone in their family the new song they learned in class today.
The goal is to introduce young children (K3 - Grade 1) to the joys of music, so that they can appreciate and enjoy music at an early age. We also use this opportunity to introduce them to various musical instruments. The goal is for them to explore different instruments including piano, violin, ukulele, percussion instruments, singing, movements and also to learn the basics of music (e.g. rhythm, pitch, dynamics, etc).
“The goal of our Music Initiation Program is to help children develop a musical sense through hands on musical exploration.”
Music Initiation Classes introduce children to different musical instruments (including the concert grand piano, violin, guitar, ukulele, drums, and other orchestral musical instruments). Young children will also learn the basics of music, including rhythm, pitch, dynamics through singing, dance, movement and fun activities.
By the end of this program, parents will have an opportunity to musically assess their children, indicating what musical instruments their children are particularly interested in. Music Learning promotes concentration, discipline and also mathematical notions. Because, music learning promotes concentration, discipline and also mathematical notions, parents will see an improvement in these areas by the end of the program.
Music Initiation Classes
What are Music Initiation Classes?
Initiation classes cultivate a musical awakening in children. Initiation Classes are small group music courses where children explore a specific instrument, learn musical notes, rhythmic figures and read simple scores of songs they already know. The Music Initiation Classes are often the first sensitization to the world of music, and we introduce learning concepts in a soft and playful way, while teaching them the concentration that leads to attentive and creative listening. The children have the occasion to understand the basic structures of music that they will learn by listening and reproducing sounds and music pieces with musical instruments, and by experiencing movement, dancing and musical games.
Initiation to the Piano, Ukulele, Percussion, Guitar, and Violin
Introduce your child to the piano, percussion, violin, guitar and ukulele with playing and listening games in a fun group environment to develop basic skills at the instrument.
These are introductory courses to music; they aim to prepare children to learn piano, violin, ukulele, or percussion. Students will discover the instrument and the notes by playing, improvising and composing. They will be sensitized to the musical vocabulary and the good posture at the instrument. They will develop their listening faculties, memory and concentration. The class' objective is to give the child the desire to learn music, and thereby, the piano, violin, ukulele, guitar or drums.
This course will allow the child to deal with concepts such as: the note names and their order, the exploration and knowledge of the instruments, fingerings (if applicable), good body and hand posture, the pulse, the basics of dynamics, attentive listening and interaction with others, basic music reading and writing as necessary for learning music theory.
The child will learn these concepts through games, improvisation and composition, to wake all the senses: listening, drawing, applying the concepts at the instruments, singing, etc. These activities will be adapted to the context of learning, along with the skills and experience of the child. Improvisation will take an important part as it leaves room for creativity . This encourages children to be creative, interact, listen, be spontaneous and involve their emotions. This course provides a smooth transition between music awakening classes and the serious practice of a musical instrument or simply to the novice child who has expressed interest in the instrument.

Music & Movement Classes
MusiKinesis classes guide students towards unlocking the music within their body.
The MusiKinesis Program, which was created by Ms. Monica Dale, is rooted in the Swiss method of Emile Jaques-Dalcroze, but with a slightly different accent. As a contemporary American approach, MusiKinesis® is flexible, applicable and directly focused on the nexus of dance and music. Emphasizing a playful, experiential approach to teaching and learning music, MusiKinesis Classes feature interactive games, exercises, and musical storytelling activities that help students learn to trust their creative ideas and develop their own artistic intuitions. It is a process for awakening, developing, and refining innate musicality through rhythmic movement (often called eurhythmics), ear-training, and improvisation. When children experience our MusiKinesis Classes, they begin to feel, express, and master the flow that is essential to music, dance, and the other performing arts. In our MusiKinesis Classes children can deepen your musical understanding and improve your body awareness—all while having an amazing time. Musically, students will unlock easier, more expressive musical performances, heighten listening skills and intuition, understand music through their bodies, refine non-verbal expression, learn essential musical concepts, encourage aesthetic development, improve coordination and balance, enhance cognitive skills, and strengthen memory function. Children will also experience musical concepts in a playful manner and learn to use their entire body as a musical instrument. When paired with our Music Initiation Classes, our MusiKinesis Classes promote deep learning in very young music students.
The Dalcroze Approach has been around a long time. The method Emile Jaques-Dalcroze developed goes back to 1886. Today, his ideas about education have been confirmed by scientific research.
“MusiKinesis Classes feature music games and storytelling, and creative dance, that help kids trust their ideas and develop their artistic intuitions.”
In our Musikinesis classes, students are moving in some way: in travelling around the room, or in gestures with hands, arms, heads, or upper bodies. Their movements are responsive to the music. Classes typically include creative dancing using certain guidelines, specific to the music. Students shape their dancing to the nature of the music – its tempo, dynamics, texture, phrase structure, and style.
A MusiKinesis Class is divided into three main categories: Eurhythmics, that engage kid’s bodies in rhythmic movement and active listening, solfège/music notation, which develops internal melody and harmony, instantly responding to musical notation, and improvisation, which engages the spirit of play in movement, with the voice, or with an instrument. These elements are combined by using rhythm games, songs, gestures, and movement.

Early Childhood Music and Art Classes
In our Early Childhood Music and Art Classes, children experience a creative journey through hands-on-explorations with both music and art. By supporting children’s ability to move, sing, dance, paint, and draw, this class provides opportunities for students to collaborate with each other, while delving into a wide variety of instruments, props, and art materials. Some of the music explored will be folk, classical, jazz, popular, and electronic music. Children will also explore various media and artistic techniques to create drawings, paintings, collages, and sculptures.
“Hands-on discovery deepens each artistic exploration.”
